So the G20 Summit is now over and we seem know more about spouses wardrobes and what was served for dinner than we actually know about the final communiqué. Having digested the 29 paragraphs, some words seem in short supply - for example climate change gets a fleeting mention in the penultimate paragraph of the document. Not exactly putting it at the top (or even near the top of our agenda) are we? Yet If we are really going to move to a new economic model that is truly sustainable, then creating a low carbon economy has to be the foundation upon which it is built.
As Anthony Giddens recently stated in his book on global warming, however massive the challenges of climate change, the lack of immediate visibility in our daily life means the majority will do nothing about it and by the time they are prompted into action, by definition it will be too late. A bit like the current economic crisis!
